Bowden tube and wires getting stuck

Twice when I've tried to print over a moderately big area of my build platform, the bundle of wires and bowden tube coming down from the top has gotten stuck on nuts. The steppers thus skip steps with a grinding noise and the job is ruined. Has anyone else had this problem? What's the proper length for the middle bundle? I may have to find some way to pull it back up the top plate and fasten it.

On a related note, the layer fan crashes into the binder clips when printing the first layers near the edge of the plate! Any remedy for this besides removing the fan?

People use a retractable badge clip attached to the top to apply a constant slight upward tension on the wires/tube and that keeps them out of the way.

I moved the hot end to the far corners almost touching the bed and made sure the wires are long enough to handle that plus add a little bit of slack, then I tied up the excess.
