Stripped Timing Pulley Screw - Better metal?

I stripped the screw on the timing pulley today as I was taking it apart to reapply some threadlocker and tighten stuff down. I was getting some spin on all three of my axes. The metal on the screw seems to be pretty soft. Does anyone know what kind of metal it is and if it is possible to use something more durable? For instance - would stainless steel be more durable?
I went ahead and just ordered a new pack
http://seemecnc.com/collections/parts-a ... ley-3-pack - i figured this would probably happen again.
Thanks!
Jeff

If you replace the screw with something stronger, next time you strip the thread on the pulley.
You don't need all 3 screws in there, especially with the newer motors that have flats on the shafts.

My pulley centers appear to be cast aluminum. You can only tighten it so much before the aluminum gives way. If you haven't ground nice flats on your motors, you need to do so before re-installing the new pulleys. Also make certain you are using good relatively fresh thread locker. That stuff goes bad over time. I used old thread locker on my pulley screws and it essentially turned into grease, which exacerbated the problem for me.
