Hot End not heating up

Post by Nath5 »

Hello Everyone,

I just finished assembling my Rostock max v2. I have found that the hot end isn't heating up. All of the motors move, the hot bed led turns on and the hot bed heats up. However when turning the hot end on, the led for it in the hot bed doesn't come on and the hotend doesn't heat up. If I place a hand on the hotend then I do see a change in the thermistor reading. I am going to take the rambo out tonight and go at it with a multimeter to try to figure out what is going on. If anyone has any advice that might steer my hunt for the problem that would be awesome!

Thanks,
Nathan

I want to apologize that no one ever answered your question. Did you get this fixed or do you still need help?

Slipped through the cracks Eagle!

Firstly, I think you misspoke when you said "the led for it in the hot bed doesn't come on and the hotend doesn't heat up." the hot bed LED would never light up when the hot end is heated. The LED under the hot end connector on the RAMBo would light up though, does it?

You say you see the temp increase when you touch the hot end, that's good. For closure, does the thermistor display (LCD screen or host application) show a reasonable temperature at room temperature?

The most telling test will be if the LED on the RAMBo lights up or not. If it doesn't, then we chase something on the board or configuration. If it does then it is likely a bad connection or bad heater.

cheers,
Michael

I used a multimeter to track the problem down to the crimps going to the resistors on the hotend. I still have no idea why they weren't working but for some reason the crimps were not conducting. When I hooked the power straight to the resistors the hotend heated right up. I ended up cliping off the crimps pulling out the resistors and putting in new resistors and new crimps. Now it heats up perfectly.
