I was looking for something new to investment cast for the NYC makers faire and after seeing the T-Rex skull on the forum I just had to have one.
I printed it at 3/4 scale so it would fit my 4" vaccum flasks. I havent decided what alloy to cast it in yet (thinking red brass with a patina)
Then after sitting here playing with Rex I got to thinking......Well youll get it....

ok heres the skull at 2X size. If I cast it in aluminum it would weight about 9 lbs or 30 lbs cast in bronze. Now I have to see about printing the jaw...

Remind me to dust off the printer before taking pictures next time....Been remodeling the bathroom and dust is getting everywhere...

Holy MOLEY! That is impressive! I thought MY skull was nice lol

Congrats on the great prints and I can't wait to see how the brass skull with patina turns out!

I have ambitions of eventually getting into metal casting, but I couldn't justify picking up two fringe hobbies like 3D printing and metal casting all in one go, haha, too expensive!

EDIT: Btw, I just sliced that jaw in Cura, vertically with supports, at double the size. If you're printing anywhere near as slow as I am, I do NOT envy you for the upcoming 40 hour print you are about to have lol

LOL yea I printed the skull at 25 mm/sec and it took about 40 something hours. Boy its nice just to hit the "GO" button and walk away. Im actually standing the jaw on its chin to print it. Will let you know in about 12 hours how that works out...
