Type of crimps?Does it matter?
Type of crimps?Does it matter?
Hey , i have some fishing crimps that i use on heavy test fishing line and was wondering if they would work with the heating resistors, i was gonna just solder them but then i saw that wasn't the best thing to do.

Maybe, as long as they are conductive, can withstand the heat, voltage and current, I don't see why not.
I have my resistors in parallel and the terminals are soldered, just have to keep them from touching the hot end and no problems.

Will 60/40 solder hold up to the heat?

Cuttin it close, If you use Pla you should be able to sneak by, abs might be too much

Approximately 210C - 250C is where most lead free solder melts.
If you have something that will melt around 260C then you should be OK. As long as you keep the connections from touching the extruder.
I have soldered my connections and they seem to do fine, as long as the resister wires are not touching the extruder housing.

I think I'll just use an all metal crimp connector to be safe. Is it safe to put shrink tube around it or will that melt from the heat?

Heat shrink will just melt. I have used the following as an insulator sleeve for wires against heat.jasco13 wrote:I think I'll just use an all metal crimp connector to be safe. Is it safe to put shrink tube around it or will that melt from the heat?

I learned that they hard way, my heatshrink melted at the crimps and thats part of the reason my hotend started smoking .
