Hey Guys,

Just thought you all might like to get in on this! It's pretty cool really. So, the deal is, every saturday the previous weeks winner posts up what the next printed part is, then all week long, guys print it, trying to print the best possible part. The goal is for everyone to learn new tips/tricks to printing, as well as just plain bragging rights :D

So, here's a link to the thread for this week

http://forums.reprap.org/read.php?1,134716

Here's the lik to the "thing" on thingiverse

http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:23730

And now, I'm issuing a challenge to all you SeeMeCNC'ers out there. GET IN ON THE GAME! The best looking printed part made on our machine will be awarded some SeeMeSchwag, so here's your chance!

You will need to post up your slicer config settings describing what layer height, etc... etc... etc..., in the reprap forum, and participate in their contest. Our SeeMe members that do give it a shot, need to post their pics of the finished parts here as well, and we'll pick a winner from the SeeMe group as well.

Good luck! and happy printing!

Here's my first attempt Slic3r 0.7.2b, no support, which it could obviously use, 0.2mm layer height 0.5mm nozzle size 5mm/sec perimeters 3 perimeters 15% infill.
Layers are consistent and well aligned, detail is passable for the size, most of the issues are lack of support (chin and bottom overhang), I probably could have gotten a slightly better result if I'd dropped the temperature slightly
I'll print the version I sliced in skeinforge tomorrow if I get a chance, it has support.
I'll also download the latest Slic3r 0.8 and see if that generates usable support yet.

Dang man, that's good! Here's my crappy print. I've been fighting with this RAMPS setup machine for a while trying to get the heated bed running correctly. I can turn it on, but not off? No PID control? No off period! Sooo, I have to watch it then pull the plug on the heated bed side so it doesn't get too hot. But, Here's my entry for this week.

.3mm layer height
25% fill
15mm/sec perimeters 30mm/sec fill
3 perimeters, 3 solid layers
Fan on always except for bottom 2 layers

What firmware are you using? Marlin? Try Repetier firmware, it has PID and keeps my temps nearly dead on.

I'm also using Repetier, and my bed and extruder vary by less than 2 degrees in a print.
Having said that you should be able to get Marlin to work.

Using repetier Firmware. My problem is I can turn the heater circuit on with Gcode and the button on the host software, but I cannot turn it off at all, either sending M140 S0 or turning it off on the host doesn't turn the mosfet off. It stays on until I reset the arduino?

It's very odd that you can turn it on, but not off.
Do you have a scope you can put on the PWM pin?
Do you have a second electronics setup you can try?
It might be a damaged arduino/ramps board.
Try connecting the bed to the fan pin and changing the pin configuartion in pins.h to use that pin for the heated bed.

Just read your post over on reprap forums. I'll try that today after I'm done printing some stuff. Makes sense, D10 and D9 pins are working just fine? I still think it might be a firmware issue, repetier has tons of stuff rolled in there over the last few firmwares I've been playing with. I'm absolutely loving it though. These guys out there sure are making leaps and bounds with the firmwares available nowadays.

And once more this time in Pink!
This is pink PLA from repraper.com, I actually ordered the purple, but I find the pink amusing.
Slic3r8.2, .5mm nozzle, 0.2mm layer height, 5mm/s perimeters 2 perimeters, 0% infill, retract off, fan on for all layers, first layer @200 rest @185
The pink doesn't hide some of the blemishes as well as the translucent colors.

Took almost 2 hours to print. Bring it on!

cheers,

Damn, that looks good Michael! Challenge accepted.
I might be able to get the new nozzle on my machine and see if I can start printing at .1mm/layer and .28mm extrusion diameter! ;-)
