e-motor jerking

Post by ericpudding »

On my v2, the extruder motor keeps randomly jerky backwards really fast. I havent noticed any problems with my prints because of this but the sound is very annoying as it does happen pretty often. I was told before that this happens because there is too much pressure in the extruder when its trying to push the filament in so I need to increase the hot end temperature. I have tried this and it hasnt worked. I have the hot end at 225 for PLA and im still getting these jerks. How do i fix this?

If it's too much back pressure, and it's happening throughout the print (not just during the first layer or so) printing hotter and slower will usually resolve it.
It can also be too low a setting on the motor current (in configuration.h) or unfortunately too high, though it's more likely to be the former unless the motor is red hot.
Filament with inconsistent diameter will also do this.

If it's just happening only on the first couple of layers then you most likely have the head too close to the build plate for Z=0 and you can either ignore it, or adjust it.

if you are running the stock hot end and have to print at 225 for pla to go thru it I would think you might have melted pla backing up in your nozzle causing a partial jam up. One thing I have found with printing pla is to print it as cold as possible (sounds odd) but the heat creep up the nozzle is pretty insane. This is dependant upon speed of course and as your speed increases you need to increase the extruder temp as well.
Also, when does the problem occur? is it on the first layer, or during the entire print? I also have to queston, are you hearing a kick back "thunk" or is this just a retraction thing? Sitting here miles away on a computer and not being there makes diagnosing thing a real PITA.....video???? :D

The problem occurs throughout the entire print at random times. Im printing at 180 right now and still getting the jerks and it seems like they are happening more often. Another thing I noticed was some filament and took out a few days ago the end of the filament is bigger than the rest of the filament. it was 2.0 mm for a 1.75 mm filament. does this new information mean anything? Also seems like it gets worse as the print goes on.
