Hello Everyone!

I am new to 3D printing and this will be my first printer. I intend on getting a pre-assembled Rostock Max from tricklaser. I am very excited! What do you guys think about the printer? I also plan on getting Generic Default's Tri-Hotend when he gets some made up. I just wanted to make sure that it would be compatible with my machine and if I had to upgrade the board, find out what you guys were switching to.

I was going to get a classical printer that was dual extrusion ready, but when I found out I get dual extrusion and maybe even triple extruders running on this delta, I knew it couldn't compete + the community was non-existent for it, and it's obvious that here the community and support from SeeMeCNC are solid.

Can't wait to get up and running and to be apart of this awesome group!

Welcome and obviously you made a good choice. I bought an Orion, and will likely build my next RoStock. Its alot of fun.

Well, I think I have changed my mind. I think I'll just get the V2 from SeeMeCNC. Just thinking about all the things I could do with that extra 1400. Any suggestions about upgrades to get from the get go? I literally have the additional $1400 ready for upgrades:) What do you guys think are the best arms? I definitely want dual extrusion outright. I read something about motor dampeners just a second ago; should I be thinking about these sort of things?

I'd just buy 2 Max's

There are tons of upgrades and mods that you can do, but the stock machine is really quite capable out of the box (once assembled, of course). With the exception of the motors dampers (which are much easier to install during assembly), I'd keep the money and learn the machine for a bit before you go nuts on the rest of it.

Good point, get the dampers and learn the machine before you do anymore....

Have a look at PEI for the hot bed. It's a game changer. There is a long thread on this forum.

- Carbon Fibre Arms
- Astrosyn Dampers for the steppers
- E3D (if you want to go high-temp materials)

Those would be my suggestions for upgrades that you could implement during the build. Everything stock works excellently though. Just my opinion, but I would hesitate on the tri-hotend. Get to know how the machine really works and all the different software and slicers and everything first. Going right for the advanced stuff might just make things too complicated. You would need to change out the Rambo to something else as well as it only supports dual hot ends.

I like my printers quiet, so I'd recommend the Astrosyn dampers, plus a replacement RAMBo cooling fan (I used http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0016CMCBG ).

I have received my kit. Ordered some astrosyn dampeners and the connectors suggested in the manual and I have started construction. I'll just stick with stock everything to begin with as you guys suggest and then work my way up to more extruders. Overexcited all the same!

I would go ahead and replace the RAMBo fan while you are doing the build. pretty much everyone who uses their printer a good bit does this. It is a cheap and simple upgrade while doing the build and it really does keep it both cooler and almost silent. most of us went with this fan: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009NQ ... UTF8&psc=1 as it lasts pretty much forever qand it is dead silent while moving a great deal of air over the controller board. So with your dampers and the fan the printer is set to be great! I would look into carbon fiber arms and the E3d V6 head later. I LOVE mine and it prints like a DREAM with the upgrades myself and others have mentioned. But out of the box it is super good and just needs the fan replaced. (Just my 2 cents worth.)

Dig through the forum and you will discover tons of stuff you need or may want to have.

All the above suggestions are good ones but before you become overwhelmed, build the printer and then after you are more familiar with it
then YOU can decide what is the best addons for you. The decision to add the dampers was a good one and I am glad you did it.

Could anyone point me in the direction of instructions for applying the dampeners? I have just reached "Installing the Drive Gear on the Stepper Motors" part of the manual and I imagine this about the time to be installing them. I have read thorugh this post:

So as far as I understand it, I'll need to grab some 6mm M3 screws and change where I put the gear on the shaft. Which way do I have to "inset" (I don't think this is the proper use of inset according to the definition I found.) the gear. Towards the motor or away? Because I have not seen how it is setup without the dampeners, I do not know what needs to be changed to correct for the depth of the dampeners.

Other than that, everything is going very smoothly. I'm really appreciating the quality of the laser cut parts. I have purchased other things before composed of laser cut wood and it was just utter junk; no way to remove pieces without tears forming down the grain. This stuff on the other hand is sexy smooth and pops out effortlessly!

Read the note of mine quoted in that thread; I think I was pretty clear. Basically, because you are inserting the damper between the melamine and the stepper, the stepper is pushed further away from the gear. To keep the gear in the same location, you have to mount it so that it is overhanging the stepper shaft a bit.

Alright, that seems to have worked perfectly. I hope that it doesn't need to be dead on as I was only able to get the gears within +-0.3mm of their new positions. I guess ill find out when I put the belts on. On to searching the forums for how the rev7 Onyx bed is different!
