Smoking hot end.

Post by MARSTECH »

I was in the process of installing the firmware; when I realized a burning smell. I look over and my hot end was steaming, and it smelled like it was burning. Is this normal? Or should I be worried? Thanks for all the help in advance.

It is not normal to have the hot end even get warm until you switch it on, which doesn't happen until after you've installed the firmware and start the hot end tuning process.

I don't have any immediate thoughts about what you need to check, so I'm not going to be a lot of help at this point. The short answer is no, something seems to be wrong.

A _little_ smoke from the hot end the first time it is switched on is not unusual. The trouble here is that it shouldn't have switched on yet.
