Excess filament before printing

So, I normally pre-heat my bed, so that when I start printing, my nozzle is on the bed and printing as quick as possible to avoid any dripping from the nozzle (this may suggest high temps but I've had it on my Prusa too).
Wondering how we can combat this, sometimes I don't have time to pre-heat the bed, so I just wait, meanwhile filament is being emptied all the time.
I'm wondering if we can make some start gcode to go to the edge of the bed at one of the sides, and then come in and start printing, that should hopefully deposit the material on the edge, to stop ruining the first layer of prints?
Usually I can catch it just before its finished heating up and starting to print, but not all the time..
Thoughts..?
