My new Max V2, so far pretty good.

I have wanting to get into the 3D printing hobby for a while now, but wasn't sure which one to get. I almost spent $3000 on one of the MakerBot models, but decided to spend less money now in case the technology got cheaper and better in a year or two. I'm an Electrical Engineer but always loved mechanical design as a hobby. Hiking takes up at least half my weekends during the good weather months in the Washington Cascades, so when the weather started to get bad, decided to order the Max V2.

I took my time on the build and it took about the time recommended. My first two parts, the fan shields came out fantastic, I was really impressed. When I went to print something bigger I noticed my bed was not as level as I thought. Spent an hour or so leveling it and the problem was solved. I have been printing with PLA since and soon added a second layer fan which made a notable difference.

About the only thing that I have not been able to solve so far, is how to make the slicer (Slic3r) make continuous movements for things like Vases and the Strtetchlet. I set the Perimeters to 1, enabled the Spiral vase mode, set Fill density to 0%, and set the Horizontal shells to 0 for both top and bottom. Also I set the Seam position to a couple different settings. With all those changes the head will still to about 60 degrees then randomly jump to another section. One continuous movement would be much better. I wanted to print out some light shades, but until I solve this, I'm just not going to get the quality that I know the printer can do.

Anyway, this forum has already helped me as I have found answers to numerous questions already, so THANKS!

First to prints.

This site hasn't let me post anything for two days, so not sure if this is going to work.

It worked! Welcome!

You should give The slicing software "Cura" a try. You need to print from the SD card when you use it, but it's quite good at what it does.

The spiral vase option is in Cura as well, and I almost had it working but I think I needed to disable retractions completely.

Congrats on the build.

Welcome to the Forum!
Those are some good prints especially since they were first prints.
Slic3r is a difficult slicer to use many of us use Cura or Kisslicer.
Ask any question you want and someone will get back to you.
