HIPS as part material

I never see anything anywhere on the internet about running HIPS for anything other than ABS support.

Does anyone ever make parts out of this stuff? How does it compare? I have a spool of green HIPS and I was thinking about making some random stuff from it, I haven't gotten the CHIMERA yet so I can't use it as support.

Nice video, but I hate how she pronounces it as the word hips.

Does she say abs? pla? PLAH!

I've noticed people do this with PET as well. What gives? P.E.T.!!!

Who doesn't call HIPS HIPS? No one wants to spell out H I P S :P

I'll go with you on every other plastic, PET, ABS, PLA, HDPE, etc, but HIPS I call HIPS

Oh, and if Ultimachine sold as many colors of HIPS as Lulzbot did in 1.75, I would buy the hell out of it. Natural is so boring, and HIPS seems like a nice material.

That is the only video I have seen regarding printing regular parts in that material.

There are plenty of colors of HIPS available on Amazon and other places, I have some Gizmo Dorks HIPS that I will try printing soon.

From now on I'm pronouncing ABS as abs, but capslocked because they're amazing six-pack ABS. Example: "Hey guys! I printed this fan shroud out of ABS! Hrrrgh!" That last bit was the shroud flexing. :P

Is PC-ABS when you're careful to not make fun of or otherwise insult his/her ABS?

Spent a little time setting this material up this evening printing a single wall part to set up retracts, wipe, etc. The part gets all droopy unless I run the layer fan, only takes 30% fan speed to fix that issue. Seems to print the same at 220c as it does at 240c, with and without the fan(droopy without, good with).

It seems like I can only get this stuff to print with a layer fan. I haven't been able to print ABS with a layer fan so I'm not sure how I'll make this all work once I have dual extrusion and use this as a support.

This has been posted before, and for good reason https://www.lulzbot.com/sites/all/theme ... _Guide.pdf (maybe not helpful now, but in the future)

After looking at that and a few other sources I can't see any reference to a layer fan. Where did you get your material?

Since you're using it as support, is it really important for the support to look nice? you are removing it after all...

I'm pretty sure I have read that. Support should look nice enough that the abs laying on top a also looks nice.

I might be printing too fast for the size but with the layer fan it seems to work out OK.

I have a spool of Gizmo Dorks HIPS.

I got two spools of GD HIPS yesterday. Price is right. I'll give it a whiz this weekend.

Just got home, the part with infill and layer fan turned out really nice. Might just have to slow down.
