I have been using MatterHackers PLA ever since I got my printer set up, and I noticed they always put a sticker on the spools that I never understood - seemed like some kind of manufacturing code, and I didn't worry too much about it.
However I just tried some eSun PLA this morning and I noticed there's a very similar sticker on their spools too! I wonder if that means it comes from the same factory? Any thoughts?
A sample I pulled off of a MatterHackers roll reads "PLADJfJhO1G"
And an eSun roll reads "PLADJhJb02G"
No idea what that means, but I have spools of Hatchbox and MakerGeeks as well and I haven't noticed the sticker there, so it isn't some universal thing as far as I can tell.
Here are some photos:

That's a safe guess, yes. There are more sellers than manufacturers. The old SeeMeCNC plastic used to have a TonerPlastics label on it, which is the same sticker that was underneath the Inventables sticker on my other spools.
I wish someone would produce a guide to who makes what filament and where it's sold. That way you could figure out which suppliers to do business with based on your filament preference.
