Orion leveling Problems

Post by deager4 »

I've been noticing over the past few weeks that on one portion of the build platform, between two of the towers, lifts above the platform. No matter how I try to level the printer, in that portion of the platform, the head lifts above the platform. What could be the problem? Thanks.

Sounds like you need to calibrate your set stop screws, which is covered in the Max build manual.

My guess is that your horizontal radius is too low ( or too high, dependig on where the low spots are.) Describe exactly where is low. Between which towers? If you look at the area right below each tower, is the section to the right higher than to the left?

It has been my experience that when the nozzle lifts in an area between two towers AND THE TWO TOWERS ARE LEVEL, the problem lies with the squareness of the tower opposite that point. The tower is most likely leaning away from the machine and not square to the bed. No amount of end stop adjustment was able to correct my problem. When I applied a framing square to the tower and bed, confirmed the tower to be out of square and corrected the problem, the lifting largely went away.

I have found that you should be able to place multiple points on any given circle either at a tower or between towers into a plane (within reason) by assuring the towers are square and the end stops are adjusted mechanically or electronically. With that said the concentric circles may not at that point lie within a plane relative to each others. The horizontal radius is then used to correct the plane of the multiple concentric circles since they can be thought of a small circle arcs on a sphere.

In my experience and frustration, the circles must be brought into a plane parallel to the bed first. The end stop screws will correct the plane at the towers, the tower square corrects between the towers. After this is good then you attack the horizontal radius.

YMMV!
