PLA prints splitting as they cool.
PLA prints splitting as they cool.
Hello, I am new to 3d printing. I have a new Orion machine. When I print larger prints I have the first layers sticking fine but as the higher layers cool they tend to curl upwards and split. Extruder temp is 210 and bed temp is 65. I have tried going up and down on temps in 5 degree increments with no success. I have reset z height and played with different calibrations and just cannot figure it out. I use the standard Orion settings for the layers that came with the machine and I am using slic3er to slice. Here is a pic as well. Any help would be great as I have started and failed about 10 prints trying to figure this out. Thanks

I don't have an Orion so I don't know what the default profile is. How fast are you printing? I assume you turn on the layer fan?
Also 65 seems hot for the bed. I'd go with 60 at most.

Do you have a different filament you can try??
Are you sure your printing with pla and not abs? Light a small piece on fire and see if it makes black smoke (abs) pla burns blue flame and smells sweet.

What infill percentage are you using? There's usually not any reason to go above 15%. The more infill, the more stress on the part.
I loved my Rostock so much I now sell them in Oz

The filament was mislabeled. I tried the burn test and it is abs. It has a PLA label on the roll. Thanks for the tip. I will try printing with abs settings.
