Seems like these are popular requests for Christmas gifts! I made this one for my mom and dad. 12" tall 9 hours to print, .4mm nozzle/Kraken hot end on 55°C PEI bed.

And a question, does anyone know of a translucent black or smoke grey 1.75mm PLA? This would look awesome with a little translucency in black or smoke!

cheers,
Michael

T-Glase Black might do the trick for you.

Hey Jim, thanks for that. I do have black t-glase. I think it is a little too flexible for these large vases. Also, I had an ulterior motive for translucent black PLA - I wanted it to print some of my fly fishing reels! An editor at Field & Stream contacted me this week and want to do an article and maybe a video on my 3D printed fly reel. I am going to print him a reel to try out and his column's colors are red & black (http://www.fieldandstream.com/hook-shots) so I am making the reel to match. I have some beautiful translucent red PLA so black to match would be great. I did find a source on eBay and they had 1 spool left so I snagged it!

cheers,
Michael

I've made quite a few. I love that the Rostock Max can make such big things! I could go another few inches but that would add hours onto an already long print.

cheers,
Michael

Is the vase able to hold water without leaking and does it matter if you use PLA or ABS for holding water?

It doesn't matter on ABS or PLA. This is printed with 1 .4mm perimeter! So it it ultralight. It holds water just fine however, since there is only 1 perimeter holding the bottom on, I created a fillet between the sides and base to add more plastic at this critical joint. That works fine.
