Spiral Vase Slicing Error

I'm trying to print a 300 mm tall beer bottle that my wife modeled. I decided this type of geometry might be a good time to try out the spiral vase option in Matter Control, but noticed it causes serious issues while printing the bottom surface of the bottle. This bottle has a concave bottom and the slicer tends to pile the filament in vertical rings instead of laying the filament to make a continuous surface on the bottom. I've tried both the Cura Slicer and the Matter Slicer. Any idea what I'm doing to cause this? I'm basically using all the rest of the default settings in the V2 installation guide with the exception of a .2 mm layer height. The bottle prints fine if I uncheck the spiral vase, but there are some recessed dots on the surface of the bottle where the retraction takes place on each layer.

I'll dig around for some retraction tuning how-to, but I'd like to know if anyone knows how to make the spiral vase slicing option work on something without a flat bottom.
