PLA melting at EZStruder ? Cool it!

Post by beilmandesign »

My EZstruder stepper was getting so hot it heated the hobbed gear and caused the PLA to become so soft it could not feed itself. This caused several jams.
ugly isn't it?

I added a heat sink (with Artic Silver polysynthetic thermal compound - used for pc cpu's) & 5 volt fan to cool things down.

I had the heat sink laying around but this would work: http://www.jameco.com/webapp/wcs/stores ... 2150942_-1

And because I did not know I would need a fan up there I did not have a 5 volt wire pair up there. I used a wall wart like this: http://www.jameco.com/webapp/wcs/stores ... 2217730_-1
