Iphone 6 NinjaFlex Cell Phone Cover !!!!

Post by dunginhawk »

So after a LONG couple of days dialing things in, changing settings, blowing fans on steppers etc etc etc, I FINALLY got a ninjaflex to print on my Rostock N Roll.

I can certainly post some settings and tips/tricks I used to get it right, but honestly, its only the first success I have had, so its no where near my Bible yet... Ill share anything if you need it though.

Below are a few images.

There will always be a little bit of stringing with 0 retraction on Ninjaflex, but the only stringing I had was in the speaker and button holes.. easily trimmed.
Oh, and the black lines are from me marking the filament with a sharpie to make sure i was getting accurate extrusion.

The phone fits like an absolute GLOVE in this thing. its perfect. Snug, protective, and feels great in the hand.

I really couldnt be happier with how this turned out. Except EVERY little imperfection on the bed (glue heights, scratches, etc) will ALL manifest themselves on the back of this case..

Thanks for stopping by.. :)

Looks awesome!

Did you have trouble getting the case on the phone?

I printed a phone case using Soft PLA from Matter Hackers and while the material is flexible, it doesn't stretch at ALL, so fitting it was a challenge.

Is ninja flex superior in that regard?

Also, how did you print the lip of the case? Did you just print support like usual and remove them? Was it easy/hard and did it leave scarring?

Fits perfect... i could scale it down by 1% and it would be REALLY snug...
This stuff cools quickly, so no need for support, the lip is perfect.

I had issues with PLA and ABS shrinking, so any case I made with those wasnt any good.
This stuff is great...
ninjaflex is VERY superior for this purpose.

No support?? Is the lip a 90 degree overhang?

No. It's more like a 45.

That thing looks nice! Were you using glue stick to hold it down during the print? There is a new method of mixing a glue stick with water and foam-brushing it onto the plate that is much better and leaves a smooth finish.

I've printed a few phone cases with trimmer line nylon, PLA, and ABS, but the flexible stuff would probably be the best for a protective case. Good job.
