My build of a Rostock Max v2 went great, and now I've got my eye on upgrades.
The main improvement I'd like to add is a raspberry pi hosting OctoPrint so that I can run prints without tying up my main computer. I don't expect to have to manually access the raspberry pi often, but I have a cheap 7" screen from a car DVD player hacked together and ready and will show OctoPrint in a browser is it's not too much of a horsepower drain. I'm debating what mouse to throw on there, if any, but I'm hoping to find a trackball that suits the job.
More importantly, I have to choose where to mount this extra hardware. I can envision it working well at the top of the printer. But I'm unsure if that's a good option, and mainly because of wiring. I've already routed cables things through all three posts (via the build instructions), and as far as I know, I'd be unable to stuff any more through there. I potentially have a large cable payload, too, since I could be routing power and USB cables through it.
I figured this was a common problem. Is there one particular solution people have gravitated towards? I'd only found one similar modification which used a PVC pipe: http://forum.seemecnc.com/viewtopic.php?f=42&t=5740 This seems adequate to me, although also hope to add jfettig's enclosure design (http://repables.com/r/447), and I don't want to paint myself into a corner.

There are some color trim panels available through a few sources that can be used to cover the side slots in the towers. This creates additional chambers for threading wire. The covers protect the wires from slipping into the path of the cheapskate wheels. User jdurand just posted a few days ago that he found 1/2" (i think that was the size) plastic fiber banding (as used to hold boxes to pallets) worked well, too.

Ah, that's a great idea! I hadn't thought to use those openings, since the cheapskates run over them. Thank you!
