Effector platform: Rostock MAX vs. Orion

Is the triangle effector thing different on the Orion than it was on the Rostock MAX? I can't quite see. I always thought they were identical, but someone trying to fit one of my parts to an Orion effector platform says it doesn't fit.

Appears to be identical to me. I measured one side of the triangle on both and each measured 86.5mm.

The MAX and Orion platforms are the same. There are only 2 different platforms, the original 2 piece version and the newer 1 piece. Depending on when you bought your machine it could be either. both where used on Orions and MAX.
Although, I doubt any v2 MAX's have the older 2 piece platform.

How long have Rostock MAX kits been shipping with the new effector? My LED ring definitely won't fit those.

Brian,
There are actually three versions. The "New" Platform came in two variants. One has a single Layer Fan Tab and the later version is the three Layer Fan Tab Platform shown.
My May vintage V2 came with the single tab Platform. I saw quickly that a single fan was as expected only cooling one side of PLA parts. I bought two addition three tab Platforms and use them for the original SeeMe Hotend and a E3D and use the single tab for mounting a dial indicator.

So there's "the original" which is the 2-piece, screw together one in the left side of Brian's picture.
The new style came out when the clip style arms were released. It's been more than a year, but I don't know more specifically than that (I know it happened between MRRF 13 and 14).
Nitewatchman is right, the new clip style mount has been updated since its release. I believe to make it stiffer, but I don't really know. Didn't the 1st version only have 1 mounting clip, or am I remembering wrong?

nitewatchman, your right there was a version of the one piece that only had one fan tab, it was also thinner (7mm) than current version which is 9mm thick.
The 7mm thick single fan tab iteration was not used very long, probably because it was not stiff enough and really needed 3 fan tabs.
626pilot, why wont't your LED fit the new platform?
edit: I just looked at your LED mount, I see why it will not clip on to newer 1 piece platforms.
The Trick Laser Light Ring works with any of the platforms.
Either fasten with the 3 standoff screws or use 3 short self tapping screws into 3 of the new holes on each side of the standoff screw.
If you put the standoff screws in from the bottom, the heads recess up into platform so light ring does not hit them. That is my preferred method.
If you use the 3 standoff screws through light ring be careful to not over-tighten screws, it can crack light ring pcb. A spacer to take up the gap is a good idea, like a stack of washers or (2) 8-32 nuts as spacers.
Note: the "pairs" of holes on each side of the standoff mounting holes strangely are not the same bolt pattern radius as standoff screws, but are close enough for the self tapping screws to mount ring.
Steve/John if you happen to read this thread.. why did you make them spaced that way? what are they for anyway?

I cloned the Orion CAD files last night from Github so I could modify a led light array that clips to the vertical rails. Tonight though I was trying to see how to mount my dial indicator and noticed that my Orion has a different hotend mount than the one in the CAD file. I have the single piece with 3 tabs.
Is an updated CAD file available for the Orion or at least the hotend mount?
