Cheapskate U-Joint Carriage CAD Files?
Hi all, I'm trying to create a set of carriage mounts for a custom arm solution for my printer, and I'd like it to mate with the existing cheapskates. The only problem is I can't find the CAD files to esure I get the correct geometry for my MAX V2! I tried importing the Orion files, but they all give me errors in solidworks (apparently importing IGES formats exported by certain CAD programs is problematic). I was wondering if the team made these in Solidworks and could post those CAD files?

This is from my sketchup version of the RMV2. The pieces are a direct import of the hosted files.

Forgot to mention, if you want to keep the original dimensions, the center of the u-joint axle is approximately 16mm away from the cheapskate face.

Sweet, thanks! I tried eyeballing the distance after a pair of calipers I had wouldnt bend far enough to take the measurement, and got 50 and 65, and had to trim some of the plastic on my effectors away. I'll be using this as a guide from now on, do you have the diameters of the holes btw?

A trick for measuring center to center distance on holes if they're both the same size:
Measure one hole diameter with your calipers and then tare/zero them. Now measure the outside to outside distance of the holes and the calipers will give you the center to center.
Don't forget to re-zero when you're done.

Alternately, measure the diameter of the hole and then measure the left (or right) edge to left (or right) edge of the holes and subtract the radius. That'll give you center-to-center.

50 holes are 3.55mm (as are the 4 for bearings)jarek319 wrote:Sweet, thanks! 66 holes are 3.07mm
that's the measurement pulled from the digital file, but the laser kerf obviously makes the holes slightly bigger.
is there documentation saying this is official? if so i need to change the measurement on my custom parts.JFettig wrote:Its 17mm, not 16

Its what I measured and used to print my new ones, I will measure them again now that they are off the machine.

I wasn't trying to argue or anything. I measured from the skate to rod center, so I could have eyed it wrong. I also measured the high and low of the axle mount valley. I got 18.2 and 15.38. So i guess we're both pretty close.

Not arguing but "close" doesn't cut it. Its a simple measurement and it needs to be accurate.

.6695" is what I measure center to carriage or 17.0053mm,
Its .732 to the outside of the 1/8" shaft, subtract 1/16" and you have .6695 or 17mm.
