Hatchbox ABS

I have 4 spools of Hatchbox - printing a 26 hour part with one, printed a couple small parts with another so far. It has to be the best filament I've used to date(only started printing in Nov). Surface finish is by far the nicest, no popping or steam, seems to be pretty well dried.

I have 2 spools of translucent - red and black(more like smoke), I only printed a couple small parts out of the black translucent, I was so happy with that I ordered 2 spools of orange for my large print, can't post any pictures of the large print up because its a prototype for a product but it sure is printing nice!

The spools these come on are also very nice, they have 1.25" holes for the spindles - both the 1kg and 1lb spools do.

Thanks for the info. What other brands of ABS have you tried?

I've been really happy with IC3D so far (gone through 1.5 spools of red, 0.5 spools of white, and almost finished with a spool of black), but am always open to alternatives if they are just as good or better.

I'm also pleased with Hatchbox. I've only printed with their PLA so far but it's excellent quality at a bargain price.

Matter Hackers ABS, Pro and standard and Gizmo Dorks so far. Got any suggestions on what to try next? I have 3 1kg spools to burn through before I buy any more.

I noticed that there weren't any many filament reviews when I could have used them, only a few random notes in various threads.

I suggest trying Push Plastic. Their PLA has been a bit stringy for me but I don't know how much of that is Push Plastic's fault vs. just the nature of PLA, but I've been through a roll of their ABS and it's been an excellent material to print with.

Finished my 25 hour print yesterday using this orange Hatchbox ABS, part is 13" tall and the surfaces mostly came out real nice and smooth!

Its the first print of this part that I have made that didn't crack, however with major slicer update, the print is stronger(stronger infill in S3d). I have made some modifications to the design and will print another one soon.

Printed another large print but this time with pink ABS - printed just as awesome as the orange! I have silver, gold, and red as well to try out. I get to try out a new spool every time I print another prototype since its like 51% of a spool if S3D is calculating it correctly.

With my enclosure(37-40C inside) I haven't had any prints crack that are made with this.

i actually use hatchbox almost exclusively . i have a few microcenter spools too.
I have used over 15 rolls of black ABS from hatch and it is consistent and of great quality. Its priced very well too...

I've gone thru almost 2 spools from Hatchbox myself and thus far I've been very happy with the quality of their filament as well, was just looking at their filaments on amazon cause I need to order a new spool and was a little disappointed that their price went up quite a bit, from just under $22 to $30 per spool, but may still stick with them since the quality is great and still not as expensive as other high quality filament.

I've been using their PLA recently. Got 5 spools about a week and a half ago, and I'm through 3 of them so far. The filament feels a little bit rough when you run your fingers down its length, but it's relatively consistent, and definitely better than anything else in its price range.

My only complaint at all, which is nitpicking, is that the smaller diameter of the spools causes a more severe curly cue that's prone to tangling and snags when you near the end of each spool.

I think I'll continue using Hatchbox for the high volume stuff, and Inventables for the premium prints.

I use the hell out of PLA from wyzworks.com (and their eBay store) but never tried the ABS.

Made some really great prints with Hatchbox silver PLA and transparent red so I decided to try their blue ABS. Worst stuff I have used by far. Not sure if I got a bad roll but their blue ABS didn't wanna stick and the finish looked terrible when compared to the 3 rolls of XYZPrinting ABS filament I have here although it's much more expensive.

For now I'm staying far away from Hatchbox. They used to sell under the name "G-Star" and it was priced at $17-18 a roll. Then it changed to Hatchbox and the price slowly went up to around $21.9x then sky rocketed to $33.xx and now it's back down in the $29.9x range. I refuse to support gouging of this type. I can see $17-18 being low and $21-22 making profit so $25 seems like a fair margin but $29-33 is beyond the filaments value IMO.

Looks like their prices are up and down depending on color and size, not really sure why. How many places can you find quality ABS filament for $17-18 these days? I can only think of one kind that I haven't even tried. I'm trying other brands once I run out of what I have.

I extrude my own from virgin MG94 ABS pellets and I've never had better filament! $4-5 per pound for the pellets.

Did you have any bed adhesion issues with the translucent black? I had just bought a roll of it but I did have issues with getting it to stick to the bed, I use purple glue stick, started with my usual bed temp of 88C, and ended up going up to 100C and my build area is also enclosed but I still kept having issues. Granted these were small parts, however I did have a brim on them, and the same parts printed in the Hatchbox green ABS I have had no issues at all with my bed at 88C, I had actually ended up changing my design after multiple failed attempts with it before I finally got it to stick.

I did not have any issues but I use PEI on my print bed and ABS sticks very well to that.

I too have had good success with Hatchbox. Much, much better than with some other vendors I have tried already in my short printing experience.
