Gizmo Dorks HIPS review

Post by JFettig »

I previously posted this thread http://forum.seemecnc.com/viewtopic.php?f=80&t=7026 when I had a single extruder, I now have dual extruders and have been using this as a support material.

I have a PEI print bed - this brand HIPS is very hit or miss as far as sticking to the bed at 80 or 90C where ABS does without issues. ABS doesn't stick to Gizmo Dorks HIPS very well and it doesn't stick to ABS very well either. I print with no separation between the part and the support and as long as there are no abrupt outside corners it prints quite nicely on top and just gets a little bit of adhesion, makes for beautiful break-away support however if there is an outside corner, the ABS lifts right off of it so I was not able to successfully print a trinket a friend wanted. I was able to print that right on to Hatchbox HIPS support but that sticks so well I'll have to get some limonene to dissolve it. Hatchbox HIPS also sticks to PEI without much of an issue.

As long as it gets enough adhesion to not pull it up, it prints quite nicely on most prints but it doesn't adhere well to ABS or PEI, successful prints are very nice, but my nozzles are also covered in this stuff.
