First, I searched this issue but didn't find a solution that worked for me.
So I resolved my PSU issues by installing an Corsair RM750. All movement tests as well as temperature tests work well.
The next step I attempted was the PID Auto Tune. At first, beginning at room temp., I opened the terminal in Matter Control and entered M303 S200
The PID auto tune started but the Hot end temp got up to 220 and I received the "PID Auto Tune Failed! Temperature to [sic] high." I tried using S150 and also M303 without an argument and each time I would get the temp too high message, although the temps where the errors occurred were lower... about 165 for S150 and about 174 for M303 without an argument.
IF I set the Hotend temp manually, it goes about 7 or so degrees past the target and then settles back down and holds the target temp within .2 - .4 degrees. So clearly the thermister is functioning correctly. The bed temps works the same. No problems holding the target temp. It's just the PID Auto tune that fails for some reason. It seems that during the auto tune, it will just keep increasing the temperature.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can correct this issue? Could it be a firmware issue? How critical is the PID auto tune?
Thank you in advance for any help.

Set your PID MAX to 220, if that doesn't work, turn it down more, then after you runt he PID tuning, you could probably turn it back up - not 100% sure though.

if you're using matter control, its the same place where you enter the PID values - make sure its set for the extruder and not the bed.

Thanks, I'll give it a try.JFettig wrote:if you're using matter control, its the same place where you enter the PID values - make sure its set for the extruder and not the bed.

Re: PID Auto Tune Failed! Temperature to [sic] high
I'm not clear as to which PID I should adjust. There is Ext.1 PID Drive Max which is currently set to 205 and there is Ext.1 PID max value (0-255), which is currently set to 255.

Re: PID Auto Tune Failed! Temperature to [sic] high
Setting my PID Drive Max to 230 did the trick. Autotune was successful! Thanks for the help. Makes you wonder why the default parameter is 205 in the EEPROM...

Re: PID Auto Tune Failed! Temperature to [sic] high
Drive max should remain 205, PID Max is the value which is 255 which I believe is the value to drop down to 230 but if what you did works

Re: PID Auto Tune Failed! Temperature to [sic] high
Well, I did a search and found to threads where the Drive Max was the one that was recommended to be changed so I went with that. There isn't a lot of info on getting Auto Tune issues resolved.JFettig wrote:Drive max should remain 205, PID Max is the value which is 255 which I believe is the value to drop down to 230 but if what you did works
All I know is that I tried it multiple times with the default settings (205/255) and it failed each time. Changing the drive max to 230 worked the first time out of the gate. If anyone else has any input, I'm more than willing to try something different to see if it still works.
