Rostock MAX v2 questions

Hello all,
I am saving up to get a 3D printer and have been eyeballing the Rostock MAX v2 kit for a while now. I think it is the one I want, but I have some questions...
1. Does the Rostock MAX v2 have the ability to print from an SD card, or does it need to be
hooked up to a computer?
1.a If it cant standalone print, how much would it cost/what parts do I need?
1.b Can you run multiple printers off of a single computer?
2. I would like a full ~20" vertical build height (maybe an even 24"), would it be as easy as
just getting taller pillars and telling the slicer program that it can print higher?
2.a If so, would it be possible to have seemecnc replace the stock pillars with the longer
ones for a small added fee? If not what do I need to buy and do to it/them?
TIA

1. Yes it can print from SD
1.b I would assume it is possible, but you'd probably need multiple 'mattercontrol' or 'repetier host' programs running which seems like it should work.
2. you'd need longer belts, too. also the wires that came with seemed to have plenty extra but that might not always be true.
The slicer diesn't care if it will fit, as far as I know. The firmeware in your printer is going to need to know how tall it is (it is a value saved in eeprom)
2a you'd have to talk to them about it

1. yes
1b. Don't have two Rostock Max printers, but do have an Afinia and Rostock Max on the same computer. Also have Mattercontrol and Simplify3D installed.

Repetier server can handle multiple printers. I think that is the main difference between it and the octo/astro print.

I have two printers (an Orion and a Rostock Max v2) connected simultaneously to my computer via USB. Using MatterControl v1.2 I can choose from the printer list which printer is currently 'connected', but the software will only actively print to one at a time. I usually just save my files to the printer's sdcard, which allows both to print simultaneously.

OK, if it prints from an SD card I'm covered, both now/when I get one and in the future when I have 2 or more, LOL!
where can I get the longer belts? would I just figure the added length x2, or would I need to figure in compensation for the loop over the top as well?

Thanks, it's open ended, do they not need to be a continuous loop? If they do how would I connect them?
so I need 9.25" taller towers (to get a 24" max build height) and 94.5" belt length (the 76" standard belt length for the MAX v2 plus the added 9.25" x2) x3 (one for each tower)?
only understanding the basics of basic programming, how hard would it be to change the firmware?
Can it be updated via the USB port?
edit: ugg, $85.20 for belts alone... might still be worth it.

Ever mm of length you add to the towers will directly be translated to your build height.
And for every unit of length you add to the towers you will need 2x that length in the belts because they do have to be a continuous loop.

You do not really need to change the firmware. If you follow the build manual it will get you to the correct height.

I'm trying to mod it to be 9.25" taller build volume. ^ how will it know that it's OK to go higher then normal?
so I need 41.25" T-Slot rails and 94.5" belts. will there be stability issues with the added height, or will I be OK?
looking through the manual I see how the belts mount, so no worries there.

The belts are not a continuous loop! The two ends of the belts are attached to the CheapSkate carriage.

I figured it would work if you ran TWO instances of mattercontrol [or repetier]. It sounds like you just had one mattercontrol running. Of course I could see MC getting confused if another copy is mucking with the same files.
You could even run one MC and one repetier

Yes sorry, incorrect wording on my part. By continuous loop i meant the two ends are joined forming a loop.

Thanks, nice to know it works and seemecnc will likely work with me to get it done.
After looking through the manual I see I need to calibrate it, and something about end point switches.
Thanks for the help ladies and gents.

If you want to purchase a machine with taller-than-stock capacity, contact SeeMeCNC. I have seen other indicate they will put together a custom kit for you for a small increase in $$...
