When I use the grid support material, it is a very thick extrusion and very hard/nigh impossible to get off. I'm not seeing settings on setting the thickness for the support material. Is there a simple place to look for this? Thanks!

Play with the Z gap in the support material section. I have mine set to 1mm. Also the X/Y distance, I have it set to 1mm. That should give a bit of separation to the main part. You'll still have a pry a little when the top layer falls on the grid. Spacing the grid out a little bigger might help as-well.

Under the advanced section you can set the width of the support material but I haven't messed around with it. Mine's set to the nozzle width.

Holy cow, a whole 1mm? Is that even effective in holding anything up at that point?

I'm not opposed to paying for something if it will do what I need it to do!

I'd debate wether or not it actually works well. Sure the support works nicely, but I wasn't able to get it to match the quality of Cura, and since I switched to KISS Ive yet to find something that can come close to KISS in quality.

In the area of support, I tend to agree with Mhackeny, a good design should be able to be either printed without support, or it should have good support built into the model. As he gave as an example, the Mini Kossel recirculating carriages are a perfect example, and a prior design to that would be the Greg's extruder. Greg's has a little support column for the tab that sticks out to attach the idler to, and the Kossel carriages has a nice zig zag that the ball retainer rests on that peels right off when its done.

On the rare occasions that I actually have to use support KISS support actually does pretty well. Its more on the solid side, so it can require a razor blade to remove, but I have never had a droopy supported area, nor have I broken a part while removing the support. KISS has a setting to limit its support placement by height so you get a tad more control. The S3D nuts may not think this is customizable enough, but if the design is good it can take you far.
