I received my shiny new Rostock about a month ago and was ready to jump right into building the beast.
Unfortunately life had other plans for me.....
Finally, after overcoming countless obstacles and and obligations bent on forcibly taking what little free time I had I'm able to at least begin documenting the process.
First thing to do was remove to free all the melamine parts and admire them.
The next thing that needed to be done was to get the edges of this beauty painted up, if only to rid the apartment of the smell of burnt melamine.
It's worth mentioning here that the melamine will soak up a ton of paint so it really does make allot of sense to use a primer coating to seal everything up.
Once the paint had sufficient time to cure it was time to remove the dreaded masking tape.
Let's just say that the 5 stages of masking tape described in the build instructions are a real thing. And that which does not make us kill others makes us stronger.
I've opted to clean up the power supply leads, I'm a little OCD and I like to have my cable runs be as neat and organized as possible.
Once fully cleared I reattached only the leads that I'll be requiring for the printer. This should make for a much cleaner interior. Notice the red lead coming off the 5V rail. I'll be using that to power a Raspberry PI running an Octoprint server.
I reassembled the power supply and installed it into the base.
After testing all my outputs and ensuring all my connections were solid it still looked a little too messy for my tastes so I decided to use mesh sleeve to enclose my cable runs.
That's where things stand at this point. I'm waiting on some dampers for the stepper motors which should arrive next week at which point I should be able to get the rest of this build done and actually start printing.
A new Rostock begins

I like the color choice for the edges. It looks very nice.
