H-1.1 Build Video

Post by stienman »

I built most my H-1.1 between 7pm and 5am last Friday and recorded it using a webcam for your viewing pleasure. I'm not going to spend a lot of time on polish for these videos, but I hope you find them useful just the same. I'll put the links to the videos up as soon as I post them to Vimeo or Youtube, however it can take hours for either service to process the video so if it isn't playing, give it some time.

Counting The Parts

The first video is simply counting, organizing, and familiarizing myself with all the parts. It turns out that the counts were off for a few pieces of the hardware (washers, bolts) but that only occurred on the high count parts, and it appears there were sufficient anyway. There was one part on the parts list that wasn't present at all, but it appears I don't need it.

Assembly Overview

This is a 20x speed assembly, encompassing about 5 hours of work in 9 minutes, giving you an idea of the steps and some of the techniques I used to assemble it. I hope to edit and post the individual steps later, but until then here's an overview:

Thank you! Those were quite helpful ... much more so than I would have expected! ;)

Great video! I'll be referencing this when I start my build this week.

Thanks!

Yeah, I went to Harbor Freight thinking I could get a digital caliper cheaply, but the 12" one was $50, and I knew I needed a larger one anyway. I already had a bunch of 6" ones I got on sale years ago for $10, and I wasn't going to pay $50 for a 12" one.

They did, however, have a 24" vernier caliper that was $10, and that's what you see most often in the video - nice and inexpensive. I haven't calibrated it, but it appears you can adjust the fixed end, and the vernier markings are for 128ths of an inch, so it's an interesting and useful tool. Don't know how accurately marked it is, I'll probably use a digital caliper to compare it when I actually need more than 32nds measurements.
