Printer rebooting repetatively

Post by justwhat21 »

I have just recently finished building the Rostock Max V2 3D printer, but I am having issues since loading the firmware onto the Rambo. When I initially loaded the firmware and turned the printer on the hot end moved to the hot bed and ran into the glass before I could catch it. I realized I had an inverted platform and fixed that part, but the hot end just goes straight to home when I turn the printer on. This may be what is intended, but this leads me to the real problem.

When I turn the printer on one of two things happens. First, it will display the home screen and everything seems to work fine. I was even able to begin calibration. When it came time to use the knob on the LCD panel to toggle through menus the printer would go into repetitive reboots whenever I rotated the knob. I can push the knob in without this happening, but any time I rotate the knob it begins doing this.

The second thing it does is go immediately into this repetitive reboot cycle as soon as I power the printer on.

I have looked for a similar problem throughout the forum, but I have only found something a little similar and that was only fixed by a replacement Rambo, which I hope I don't have to do.

I submitted a help ticket with SeeMeCNC Support Desk, but after almost 2 days of waiting I am getting a little impatient waiting around. Has anyone had a similar problem? I have retraced my steps in the instructions and tried reprogramming the Rambo several times with no luck. I rechecked all my connection on the Rambo, but have found nothing incorrect. Before I begin to disassemble further I would like to get some feedback to what this could possibly be. I have attached images of my LCD to Rambo connection just incase someone notices something wrong. Please help.

Sounds like either a bad firmware flash or a faulty board. Are you sure you got your firmware from here https://github.com/seemecnc/Repetier-091-ROSTOCKMAX

The default isn't setup to home on power on. Doesn't sound like you got the right firmware tbh.

I used the link in the instruction, but just to be safe I used the link you provided. I went through the same steps and uploaded the firmware. As soon as this was done the hot end began to move toward the hot bed just like before.

One thing I did not previously mention was that when the LCD first displayed text mine was a little different than what the instructions had. The instructions had ROSTOCK MAX read, while mine had ROSTOCK MAX OK. I'm not sure if this means anything, but I thought I would add it anyways.

So on power it zooms up or down in an attempt to home depending on the direction you have the motors to move in firmware? That feature isn't enabled by default.. What version of the Arduino IDE are you running?

In the Arduino IDE there is a EEPROM clear example program that you can open and upload to the RAMBo. Try doing that, sounds like your board may have some weird EEPROM values. Once you upload the program let it run for a bit and then re-upload the firmware.

On a whim, post a picture of your LCD panel, specifically the acrylic bit with the arm that can swing down and hit the reset button. Its sounding like maybe the button is being triggered and thats why its homing on power up. Check this first before you screw around with everything else.

How about a picture of the backside of the LCD panel, while it is still plugged in. The pic above shows the B cable is flipped at the RAMBo adapter.

Yes, the cheapskates go all the way up or down when powered on. Mine were initially going down, but I realized they were inverted and fixed this, but they then go all the way up. I am running Arduino IDE 1.6.1.

I have uploaded EEPROM several times each before I try to upload the Repetier firmware. I have downloaded new firmware a few times and the same thing happens each time. I will try re-uploading the firmware more than once since that is one of the few things I have not done.

I thought that the acrylic might be interfering with the reset button or maybe even the knob/push button, so I removed the acrylic. This made no change.

Yep, the B cable needs to be turned around at the RAMBo adapter. Red stripe on the right side for both cables at the adapter. See page 197 in the manual for reference. Actually, if you take the B cable out and swap which end goes to each board, it will fit better (and match the A cable!)

Awesome!! Looks like that took care of the problem. I was really hoping it was going to be something as easy as this rather than taking stuff apart or getting replacements. Thanks so much!!
