Despirately looking for PTC Connectors

Post by Proto »

Disclaimer - I'm not looking to assign blame. I need these parts sooner than ASAP

Short Story - I need 2 PTC connectors to repair my Maxx's feed. preferably in the Metro Detroit Area. http://seemecnc.com/collections/parts-a ... tc-fitting or equivalent.

LONG STORY - My feed tube broke away from the PTC fitting last week and will not go back together. I ordered the parts from SeeMe thinking that it is only a 2 hour drive that I should have have my parts in 1-2 business days. It's been over a week. And the last thing the USPS tracking says is that it left their Fort Wayne IN facility on 3/18.

I have projects I need to get done. I have tried Parker, Airquip, and Grangers. not one stocks this part locally (Detroit Area). I'm half tempted to try Production Tool, even though I believe it is to specialized for them.

I need parts today.

How about a local Fastenal? They're often able to get me otherwise hard to find parts fairly quickly.

Thanks Dan

I never dealt with Fastenal before, no luck though.

Fastenal - Not stock in any location within 100mi of me
Granger - Closest stocking location is over an hour away
Parker - Closest stock is in Cleveland
Aeroquip - nothing
local plumbing supply does not stock metric

Things are not looking good for our Hero

Just order some ptfe tubing from seeme or Amazon and epoxy the existing tube into the connector.

Don't know why I didn't think of this earlier: 5/32~=4mm and 10-32~=M5x.8, you can mix and match these and hardly notice a difference.

ok, I have officially given up.

I ordered the correct parts from Graingers and will pick them up on Tuesday (having them transferred from another store).

You are correct, those probably would work. but they are just as rare as the metric versions.

Epoxy & Teflon don't mix, not much sticks to teflon without proper prep work (ie acid etching)
as a quick fix I thought of ductape. but I didn't want it anywhere near the hotend.

FWIW I've actually done the epoxy thing and it is good enough to get by, I did sand the outside of the tube, I bought 10ft of the teflon tubing a few years ago when I needed 2 inches of the stuff, so throwing it away isn't something I worry about.

And the fates are having a good laugh at my expense

After leaving the Post Office's facility in Fort Wayne IN, 4 days ago, it finally showed up in the Detroit Area.

Of course I had purchased a replacement set yesterday.
Of Course the Original set will be delivered 24hrs before the replacement set.

And such is my life... :P

Not sure if it's too late for you or not, but I had this problem early on with my R-Max. I used a razor blade to trim a bit from the edges from the PTFE 2 to make it small enough to manually thread a nut I had on hand onto the PTFE tubing. Then I used Kapton tabe to tape everything to the PTC connector. It worked while I waited for PTC connectors to come in (I ordered from Amazon with prime, 2-day shipping).

Interestingly enough, I never took the nut off even after the new connectors came in :-)
