I have joined in anticipation of buying the Max V2. I was on the verge of having some parts printed by Sulpteo having spent days comparing prices between the various on-line printers. I had originally intended to use Shapeways, but their prices have doubled since I modelled the prototype parts. However before doing that I thought I would have a look at DIY 3D printers, which I haven't done for some time. I was surprised to see how far the technology has come in the last 2 years and to see the vast array of machines now on offer. Consequently I concluded that my money would be better spent buying my own machine, especially as I see it is possible to print using HIPS which is by far my preferred material as I want to produce parts for construction kits. Traditionally these are made using HIPS and so there won't be any compatibility issues. The on-line printers like Sculpteo and Shapeways use Nylon 12 as their cheapest material which is not only difficult to bond but also paint.

I very nearly bought a Lulzbot but decided to go for the Max V2 instead. Not only was I impressed by the machine, but also the web site, support documentation, the openness of the company and the quality of the forum. I was able to instantly download the Mattercontrol software and load one of my models and start to get a feel for it despite not having a printer. My only reservation at this point is whether import duty has to be paid in the UK and how this may affect the price. Lastly I'm waiting to see how fast the support system responds as to whether HIPS pre-sets are available.
