Taulman Alloy 910?
Taulman Alloy 910?
Hi,
I have been using T-Glase as my goto filament for many successful prints. I like its accuracy, strength, finish, low or no odor prints, bed adhesion, no jamming. etc.
I have just read about the new alloy 910 and am considering trying it out and would like to know anyone else experience with it?
How does it compare to T-glase? I use a E3d v5 extruder with a .35 nozzle on a Orion Delta.
Thanks

Re: Taulman Alloy 910?
They were handing out free samples at MRRF, so a lot of people have tried it already. Hopefully somebody speaks up.
I missed the boat on that one, and they packed up on Saturday night before I got to visit their booth.

Re: Taulman Alloy 910?
I just got mine in today. I should be trying a good sized print tomorrow in the AM with it. I have done the same print in PLA already also so I will stop by with some pics and how it goes tomorrow sometime. Looking forward to hearing how others get along with it also.

So they are finally starting to sell it online or did you find it somewhere else? I am interested in the printabilitytravelphotog wrote:I just got mine in today. Re: Taulman Alloy 910?
I bought it off there site the other day while I was still out shooting on the west coast. Just hopped online at their site between games and ordered it. It showed up yesterday. Will have a print with it tonight!Eaglezsoar wrote:So they are finally starting to sell it online or did you find it somewhere else? Re: Taulman Alloy 910?
So the weekend got away from me and I have not had the chance to print in the 910 yet. Hoping to get to it today if I can. I will update once I have a print in the 910 with pics and all.

Re: Taulman Alloy 910?
So I just tried the print with the 910.. First try was a total bust. It printed out fine at 245 and 60 as they state on their site. But the printed delaminated pretty fast when i gave it a bit of a twist. The same print in PLA would about kill a guy it is so hard and tight of a print. So trying again with a bit hotter temp, smaller layers and more infill... Will know shortly but so far I am not liking what I am seeing.

Re: Taulman Alloy 910?
Stepped the temp up to 260 and left bed at 60. printed it at 100 infill (needed for this item) and it printed out great. another larger print on there now. Pics to follow soon.

Re: Taulman Alloy 910?
So an update: This stuff is STRONG when printed solid! I even goofed a part as I can not remove the supports from it as they are just stuck on too well even with the little contact they have. I can rework the part in CAD to get rid of the need for supports. But this stuff is doing great as a bearing for my project and helping me move ahead much faster than I expected. The 260 print temp seems to have been the right choice. 245 and it was just not bonding well at all.
I need to order more of this 910 as the client loves the parts and wants a ton of them.

Re: Taulman Alloy 910?
It would be great to know what is stronger - alloy 910 or trimmer line. Anybody knows?

Re: Taulman Alloy 910?
There's not much data on trimmer line, but considering alloy is stronger in most all ways in comparison to 645, probably alloy.

Re: Taulman Alloy 910?
thank you. I hope in a couple of weeks I'll find it out. Trimmer line should be available in a week, alloy - oh... only Derpy knows when

Re: Taulman Alloy 910?
Anyone know what type of plastic it is?
Says it prints on glass with PVA and not even that hot.

I can't find much more info than this http://www.taulman3d.com/alloy-910-spec.html
I looked at an article but it seems like they have this one a bit wrapped up for now.

Re: Taulman Alloy 910?
I'm not sure what the alloy is made of. But i can tell you that it is VERY tough and when sprinted at full infill it is easy to rework on the CNC and by hand with a dremel. It is far tougher than the nylon bridge filament I have and tried before. it has less flex it seems and is tougher, not as soft.JFettig wrote:Anyone know what type of plastic it is?

Re: Taulman Alloy 910?
The specs are pretty good, I'd love to know more about the material though - chemical compatibility, etc.
Re: Taulman Alloy 910?
I'm with you on that one Jon, I spent a bit looking around but I didn't really see much about it.

Re: Taulman Alloy 910?
OK so I have spent a bit of time with the 910 alloy now and I used it on a really important project I had and it blew me away! I needed to replace a bearing on a camera to lens mount. We wear the bearing out like crazy and Canon charges over $400 to replace them and I have to do it a few times a year. I had been searching high and low for a way to fix it and what to use filament wise. The 910 has proven to be a SUPER tough filament when printed solid and it is SLICK SLICK SLICK when it glides on more 910. This part replaced a full metal part and I beat the heck out of it shooting out in Cali this past weekend. The bearing is never this smooth and fast even when it first comes back from Canon. After a full weekend of being abused and twisted countless times, the bearing surfaces look brand new. For me this stuff is a lifesaver and is going to save me and my 100+ sports shooters that work for me a TON of cash Vs replacing the Canon bearing over and over throughout the year as we cover our assignments. The final bearing will be milled from 5083 aluminum tool plate with 910 nylon inserts for the bearing faces. In my book and for my project, 910 is a total winner!
I printed it at 260 on a 60 bed and at 90mm/m with a 3mm raft
Only word of caution I would have is watch out in supports and stuff. The 910 does NOT like to turn lose once it bonds so removing supports and such can take some work.
I also found the 910 to be very workable on the CNC mill and with a dremel after printing. I personally have found my new favorite filament for projects of this type which need toughness and ease of printing.

Real-world reviews are the best kind. Might be a good reason to upgrade to the Prometheus v2 hotend that has been sitting in the wings.

Re: Taulman Alloy 910?
I've printed a few smaller items with 910 finally, I am printing on a 3:1 glue-all to water solution that I wipe onto a hot bed, let it dry, wipe another direction and let dry then maybe again if I feel the need. I had one print peel up but I wasn't very careful with the application of the glue - I had added to it from a previous print.
Overall, it prints very well and is very strong! The only thing I don't like is that the stock ezstruder has a very hard time pushing because its so hard - the hobbed drive gear doesn't dig in much. I ended up increasing the nozzle temp to prevent it from skipping.
My print settings are:
45mm/s
50C build plate with 3:1 water:glue-all
260C nozzle
.2mm layer height
.4mm nozzle

Re: Taulman Alloy 910?
Is this stuff prone to moisture absorption? Its been humid the last few days I've been printing and I always put my spool away into a sealed bucket with desiccant but its oozing more and more as time goes on with the same settings. Higher temps is giving me more oozing too.
When the hot end heats up with ABS, it usually ooses out about 1" of filament, with 910 its around 4" and it pops(from day one it pops)

Before I moved I had 4 large reef tanks in my old house and each had an open top on it. I put about 20-30 gallons every 2 weeks or so of fresh water back into those four tanks to replace what had evaporated into the house. On top of that I lived in Houston, TX where the RH was always above 70% outdoors and about the same indoors due to the tanks. I packed up the Max about a week before I moved but my 910 was out on the table a week longer in the open. I did not notice a marked difference in ooze in that time or since overall. It does ooze a bit after the print finishes, about 2-3 inches or so but I just remove it before the next printer and have no issues in my prints with ooze.
So far the bearing testing has gone great and it has held up super well. I have shoot the last six or seven events with it and I am only on the second bearing, which is simply due to the first none metal mounting foot being cross threaded and ruined while in a hurry one day. I have ordered some of the http://www.matterhackers.com/store/3d-p ... ent-1.75mm for more testing on the inner surfaces but for now the main body will remain 910. Though I due have some Bluprint and Tritain from Taulman I plan to test with for main bodies of the bearing later this week.
But i have to say I really have fallen in love with the 910 for overall strength and lack of shrinking for this project.
