24 volt heated bed upgrade

not really enjoying the long bed heat up time for abs... so anyone with a 24 volt bed could chime in here with some part numbers and how to do this would be appreciated. a couple of questions:
will the bed that is on sale from seemecnc work?
do I completely replace the power supply and use a step down transformer for the Rambo? or do you run 2 power supplies?
what output do you use off the Rambo to drive the SSR? is it a setting change (like switch to bang bang?)
do you use the current heated bed output? if so how do you limit the current to the low side of the relay?

so from all of those threads and their links it seems there are 2 ways to do this, either a detuned 24volt supply THRU the Rambo with some changes to config.H, or with an SSR and no changes to the Rambo other than a pid retun for the bed... I already have a meanwell 12 volt supply for the Rambo ready to go in. adding an external supply will not be hard to do I think.
seems like you would not need nearly as much current to drive the low side of the SSR............ is there a way in config.H to limit that, will a pwm change solve that or will that just cause the relay to cycle too much?
relay and heatsink ordered. I have a LAB power supply I can use for the Bed until I get one I can bolt into the max.

I'd advise running an SSR still. That's a lot of heat to put through the RAMBO board, even if you do lower the PWM on it.
I rigged mine up with a Meanwell 24v supply and a 12v converter to run the Rambo. It fit in the frame with some very minor modification (less than a minute with a Dremel tool) and I'm quite pleased with the upgrade. It will require some more airflow to have all of that inside the base though (power supply, Rambo, 24>12 converter, SSR with heatsink, and 3 stepper motors), so I've been working on a fan duct that will pull fresh air into the unit via the slots near the Z tower on top and bottom. Stay tuned for the final files on that one...

thanks! I Really appreciate your input.... are you running your hotend at 24 volts as well? you have the V6 yes?

Yes the bed on sale will work.
You use the normal bed output to drive an ssr.
The ssr switches a 24v power supply connected to the bed.
You can have both configurations. I personally have 2 power supplies.

I find that the hotend heats fast enough.
You could run it at 24v but there really is no need.

I do have the E3D-V6, but I'm running it off of the "stock" 12v. It does just fine with the heater cartridge - no problem to solve there.

What converter did you use?

That power supply should suffice.
Do not get one of the cheapo SSR's. If you have a little bit of soldering skills and feel up to it, you can build an ssr with 2 mossfets and 1 resistor. That is what i did and i am very happy with the result.
