I built a 3D laser scanner. As of now its functioning, it does need some tweaks but not too bad honestly.

This thing is one part BQ scanner, one part Atlas 3D scanner, and one part self designed.

Wow that's awesome! I really want to build a bigger version of this in order to scan yacht floor plans. I'm using a big, bulky CMM now (A ProDim Proliner) and its limitations are showing.

Does the scan have accurate dimensions, or is it just a point cloud that must be scaled to a chosen size?

This is great! What software are you using? I've been using a Next Engine scanner with great results but I would love to make my own. Any chance you could post pics of more scans from this machine? What was the build time?

The software runs standalone. The above pic is what I can get from the scanner so far. Still tweaking. As for the build time? I didnt keep very acurate track. Around 24hours of print time, and probably around 2-3 hours for design. The scanner is based on this design, http://www.freelss.org/ I use the software and schematics for control as well as the software for freelss.


I have to say that it has been a battle to get expected results. The software has been fighting me quite a bit.
