After a bit of time thinking about the design and browsing around, I've finally started on my latest extruder design. The first edition I'm trying to take as much of the hardware from the regular EZstruder as I can. It needs some supplements though, an M5 hex bolt + nut, some 608 bearings (I will make a version for the 5mm ID bearings that OpenBuilds sells for the second edition), and a few extra M3 screws.
The design takes inspiration from a few places. Mostly my old extruder design and the mini bowden extruder that RepRapPro sells with their Mendels. Its a pretty slick design, and it promotes a very small footprint, which is what I'm after. I'm hoping for my extruder to be compatible with most-all pre existing EZstruder bowden setups, though it will need a longer bowden tube if you're replacing a stock MAX's extruder.
I'll leave you with a little preview of whats to come. This is very preliminary, this is the first version to be printed, and it won't really work in any way, its just a test for fit and form.

Looks great, do you plan on using geared stepper?
Re: The Monocle. Ninjaflex-compatible Geared Extruder
No, it'll use gears in the style of the ones used by RepRapPro

Hi Mike, any updates here? I'm really interested.

I temporarily abandoned this project in favor of the geared remix of the EZFlex by Glacian. I might pick up the design again some point later but I haven't had to so far.
