The mind of a slicer

Just curious as to why a slicer (Cura 15.02.1) would triple the same model, but slice it differently?? My drawer gusset has a chamfered bottom to slip over the top of a bullnose drawer side. So there is a little bridge to create. On three of the four parts it runs across the gap. But I've noticed it may also go across on an angle. Once it was trying to go parallel with the long side, which was not affective at all. This print was with ABS, @90bed, 220tip, .5mm, 35mm/s print speed
Part 2 of my question is: are there some tricks you use to get a better "grab" on each side of the bridge? I'd prefer some sort of overlap setting that could be increased so that the start position doesn't slip off. Any advise is appreciated.
