So it all started about a month ago my dear older brother told me he had the H1.1 started and let it sit around for quite some time. so he volentold me to put it together and here I am.[img]http://i.imgur.com/CffzsBbl.jpg[/img]

Welcome! What I see in the picture looks like the original H1, not the H1.1. The differences are visible to those who know the difference, but functionally it's the same.
The H1 and H1.1 sections of the forum have lots of broken links to the seemecnc site. Much of that information has been moved here: http://reprap.org/wiki/Seemecnc_h1.

Couple big gotchas I see....what you have there is a 4-axis TB6560 parallel port controller, which the reprap industry has been moving away from since computers tend not to have parallel ports anymore. If you've got a working antique handy, you may still be ok on that front.

The parallel port contoller was primarily aimed at the Mach3 software. Ask your brother if he bought the $150 license along with the kit and if so, can he find it? I believe there are some free alternatives like Linux CNC, but that's about all I know. I never had that controller myself.

Depending on the answers to the above, you may find it easier/cheaper to buy a Ramps controller package, which would let you use a USB interface and one of the free software packages like Repetier.

nope everything he has left with the kit was in the picture. I do have an old dell desktop that I installed linux cnc on last night and did the test to make sure the port works without too much interference. this was my first time installing linux and so far nothing caught on fire so I think I'm good on that front. I'm going to get some wire today to wire up the steppers to the board and after reading the pdfs you linked me to I'll finish the hot end.
