Ok, this E3D Volcano hotend is kinda awesome.

I picked one up to see if I can print frame pieces with acceptable quality in less time.

150mm high model
239.82 cm3 of material
6.5 hours print time

To print this with my V6 with similar strength would be at least 22 hours.

Printed in Inland/ToybuilderLabs/PrototypeSupply White PLA
1mm nozzle, 0.5mm layers
Speeds 20mm/s perimeter, 40mm/s loops, solid, infill
1 perimeter, 2 layers skin, 25% infill

Did you have to increase the temperature to use the volcano?

Almost all of my previous work was done in ABS, so I'm still getting used to PLA as well as the Volcano, trying to find the optimal settings.

This print was completed with the following settings:
- 60c bed temp
- 230c first layer temp
- 220c layer temp

As time permits, I'll experiment more with the print temps, to see how low I can go before I have delamination issues with the print.

But for now, all of my PLA prints have been at 220c, and are very sturdy.

I've also had limited success printing directly on the glass, but this print had elmer's purple glue stick on the bed just to be safe.

I bought the clone volcano kit on aliexpress. I'll post a review once it's setup.

I don't see how it is counterfeit if it is open-source to begin with... lol. You're counterfeit!

[edit] oh, nevermind... e3d products are misleadingly "open source." They have the ridiculous "no commercial" tag on the drawings. What a fucking joke. Maybe I won't be so enthusiastic about e3d hotends going forward...

If it was an exact copy of the e3d hotend, then it would be a "clone", But since it's aliexpress I'd bet its machined poorly, with questionable materials. "counterfeit".

I'll let you know if it's adequate or not.

Ohh I get what you're saying. I would like to know as well how the Machining on that part turns out, and which seller you got it from. A lot of people lump all manufacturers in China together, which is kind of ridiculous, because there are like ten thousand different large machine shops in china.

I'm loving it too. I installed the Volcano clone upgrade this weekend. You can pretty much double the max print speed of an e3d v6. If only I could get a 0.2mm or 0.3mm nozzle then I wouldn't have to go back for detailed prints.

Wow this printed very well. Have been working with ABS primarily on a Volcano 0.8mm and decided to try 1.2 in PLA. The results have been less than good. Im sure it has to do with the fact that I switch two variables at once.

I would be interested in see your settings. Or a config file added here would be cool too.

what would have cost me a couple hundred, i did with 4lbs of pla did it all in a weekend

Have become more proficient in PLA on both a .4mm and .8mm tips and I will be trying these settings on the 1.2mm later tonight. Thank you for sharing.

In the closeup view it is difficult to see the layer lines, a very good job!

They look great to me, Last time I tried to do a cable chain I threw it in my plastic recovery box.
A very nice job!
