extruder steps per mm settings?

Hi there,
I was looking through the KISSlicer docs last night, and while the docs showed a place in the extruder settings for mm/rev, it wasn't there in my settings (latest stable on the mac)
is the documentation only for v1.5 and above? as I'm having issues getting enough material out on the first layer, lots of thin lines that aren't quite merging.
