Hi Everyone,
I just wanted to share with you all my first project and the first offical print from my Rostock Max V2. This was the first print I did which wasn't a calibration print. I have printed the two fan shrouds, a calibration cube for my multiplier and doodaddoes steps to calibrate my flow rate but this was the first for a project.
I mentioned in my intro that my main purpose for my printer is to produce sculptures, artwork and historical artifacts but there are a few on my list of history which ive been keen to get going before some of my own. First up is the Bronze Head of Hypnos from Civitella d'Arna. Credit for this model goes to Cosmo Wernman for his 3d capture of this sculpture. He is a man after my own heart when it comes to preserving these sculptures in 3D. This model comes from his 3D scan of Skulpturhalle Basel's cast of the sculpture from the British Museum.
I printed this in SeeMeCNC PLA at 200c, 70c heated bed, 15mm/s, at 0.2mm layer height, 3 perimeters and 20% infill. The part is 6" wide 5" tall. Print was 14 hours. I went through a few different slicing and support settings but ended up going for it with no support and the printer really did a great job. There is a little gap under the chin but I expected this to be worse than it was and I will fill it up later on. Its important that my print is strong because I like to encourage people to pick up the final work and play with it which is something you don't usually get to do with the real thing. The piece feels very very tough. By the way those bumps on the skin are part of the model not artefacts.
This is the first of a few parts of the model. I was hoping to add lead shot into the infill to of each piece to add to correct weight before joining but that might be too hard now looking at the space remaining after the infill. In any case I will finish by painting with Bonze paint and adding a patina. Time to start the next part and buy some more PLA while im at it
Im thrilled with the job the Rostock has done. There were a few tricky sections and it handled them all very well. The layer alignment is pretty much perfect and the clean up the piece will require is very minimal. Very impressed with the Rostock so far.
