Best RAMBo Replacement

I'm looking to upgrade my RAMBo board. There seem to be a ton of options with new boards being introduced all the time. Is there a hands down best board out there for the RoMAX v2? If not, what are the best options and their trade offs?

What do you want to do that the RAMBo can't?

The RAMBo is a good board for the Rostock MAX as it is. There isn't really a reason to change it unless you are trying to do something that is beyond the capabilities of the board.

Well I think it's two fold, but I could be completely wrong about this. I'm looking to implement FRS for bed auto leveling. I believe this can be done with the RAMBo, but when printing detailed objects the printer stutters. My understanding is that the stuttering is caused by the processor on the RAMBo not being able to handle the delta math fast enough. So, I figure why go to the trouble setting up the FRS before I get a new board.

Personally i will be going the route of a linux based controller.

The beagle bone black based ones seem nice.

They have the benefit of being controllable over ethernet.

Yeah, I saw that one. It looked really interesting. I wasn't too sure about it tho.

I looked up the BeagleBone as well, but there doesn't appear to be a whole lot of support specifically for this printer. I'm going with the Smoothieboard, 626pilot has his own fork and is quite active here, so I know if/when I have troubles an answer isn't too far away.

That is an important consideration aswell.

Smoothie is supposedly working on a board that uses an intel edison. That will be awesome.

OK, so it looks like the Smoothie brand board is the best option at the moment. What about the Smoothie compatible boards?

You mean the Azteeg? I'm not sure about lately, but they did seem to have an issue with qc. The original just seems to be the best way to go right now; the only reason I got the 5x is because they are sold out of the 4x.

I am waiting for a Linux / Smoothie -compatible board, named AZSMZ Mini, to arrive with my mail.

Info here - http://reprap.org/wiki/AZSMZ_Mini

LCD info here - http://reprap.org/wiki/File:AZSMZ_LCD.jpg

Unbeatable (if it works) price here - http://m.aliexpress.com/item/32352119437.html

LCD, SD-Card reader and DRV8825 stepper drivers included!!

With that price tag, I have to find out if this actually works according to the stated specs.

So how did it turn out? Was it faster with less stuttering?
