A softball coming at you...
A softball coming at you...
Hello cyberspace, Aaron from NH here. I had a blast building my Max V2 and I am presently calibrating her with abysmal results. Sure, I have had a few good prints, but here's my issue. I am running Mattercontrol, ABS 1.75, purple sticks, 220/90, all my heights are on point BUT... when the print starts it takes a few passes before anything extrudes. Also, adhesion sucks with that glue, but there's nothing even coming out anyways so... one battle at a time. And yes, I have spelunked the archives in this forum for some clues to help me but haven't found any sufficient resolutions. Any feedback would be hugely appreciated. I am very excited to finally be part of this community. Thanks, guys. Aaron.

Depending on the size of the part, running a skirt around the base will help prime the system. If it's a small item, you will need 2 or 3 loops, larger stuff will get away with 1 loop. I try to put a 10"+ length of skirt before any print.

Yep, a minimum skirt length will help. I like my skirt to also be good, so I tend to preheat the bed and extruder, manually prime by turning the extruder motor, and pull off the extrudate just before hitting the button to start the print (be careful, needlenose pliers may be a good idea).

When printing with ABS, I've gotten excellent results printing on Kapton tape.
Some day I'll get around to installing the PEI sheet I bought months ago. For now, half the glass is taped with Kapton for ABS and the other is hairsprayed for PLA.

I run a 3 loop skirt 0.05 from the part.Since I began doing this, I've had perfect adhesion and not even the slightest curl. I have an enclosure so that may help a bit. I also exclusively use Elmer's purple glue stick and then a shot of Aqua net a few minutes later. That combination works for everything I've ever printed, including Nylon.

I usually put down two skirt layers. My default is 5 loops around 4mm from the part and two layers to make the loops easier to pull off to remove.
This gets all the juices flowing and a nice uniform, clean profile flowing from the nozzle.
