I wouldn't just call this a generic 24v psu. Meanwell it top notch stuff built for industrial applications. This is the best 24V PSU you will likely find for the money for 3D printer applications. Only negative is that they are not small or quiet.

I was talking about MY psu, which it's not a Meanwell (mine is brand free)

I don't want to hijack this thread, so please tell me if I should post this somewhere else.

I hooked up an LED ring, but the LEDs are flickering. That got me looking into different solutions. The most promising was a constant current voltage adapter from: http://forum.seemecnc.com/viewtopic.php?f=37&t=6924

While looking for one of those, I saw a 350W Mean Well at 12V at a local online retailer (for roughly 50 bucks). That got me thinking. There aren't just 12V rails on the 450W power supply that came with my Rostock V2 kit. Upon further inspection, there are only 264 Watts provided at 12V. Since everything on our printers run on 12V (except those of you that upgraded to 24V beds), that means getting what looks like a downgrade (350W vs 450W) would actually be a nearly 30% upgrade in available wattage (350W vs 264W).

I didn't even know what a power supply was before building my printer. What is the difference between a power supply like the one listed in this thread, and the one provided with our kits. I have heard people mention that a 20% load is too much for our stock power supplies. Is something like a mean well rated to work closer to 100%? Does this mean even a smallish looking 350W power supply would blow away the stock supply? Also, how would we set it up? Would this be something anyone who built a kit could upgrade, or would it require more specific knowledge of electricity?

Hi my led ring is connected to a dedicated 2amp psu. It's very little so it fits next to the main psu, and it's very cheap.
You could add a power swith to turn it on/off

It is very easy to do. All you have to do is just connect wires. With highschool electricity knowledge it is easily doable. Not more complicated than what you already have done.


But then again, 110v or 220v is a high voltage, and and one tiny part of it will be exposed and can zap you so I shall not be recommending it.
