From reading this forum, I’m getting the impression that the Prometheus nozzle is the better of the two all metal hotends. Looking to hear from people who own both, or at least who have used both.

I’m sort of leaning towards Prometheus but it looks like if I get the E3D pretty soon I will be able to get a metal mount for it from someone here who will sell them. Are there metal mounts for the Prometheus hot end?

I have both. Each uses the J-groove for attachment. I would guess it depends on how the mount was designed.

Of the two, I've only used the E3D-V6. I have no complaints or reasons to look for anything else, it's been rock solid. I had 1 jam ever, and it was my own fault for trying to print without a fan.

After meeting the guys at MRRF, and getting a glimpse of the science that they put into it, I'm sold on their company's designs and philosophies too. It's long, but it's a very worthwhile watch.

I've also heard decent things about the prometheus, Trick Laser has put a lot of hours on them. It's an unknown quantity for me to have an opinion on besides that.

I haven't used the V6, but I do have an E3D V5 which was perfect with ABS but jammed constantly with PLA. I switched to the Prometheus (V1) and haven't had a single jam since then.

Crap, that link makes me not want to upgrade at all. It’s too much money to spend. I’m not saying it’s not worth it, but I just hate throwing out working parts for the sake of an upgrade. It makes a lot more sense to build a 2nd printer, which is what I think most people here end up doing. I would do an all metal frame, carbon fiber arms, smoothie board, geared stepper for extruder etc, etc, etc.

I wonder if someone were to sell a delta kit with all the upgrades built in, how much would it cost?

I did a lot of "lurking" here before I made my decision to do just that: make my own "kit." I'll probably be into it $1500 (including shipping) by the time I start actually printing.

You can get a much more affordable JHead mount. I used the TrickLaser wooden mount for more than a year, it does a great job.

Great! So both those two wooden mounts will work with a Prometheus. But it looks like they don’t ship with the needed spacers or screws. Dang.

And what about the effector and stock delta arms? Will they deform due to radiant heat of the nozzle?

Also will I need to print a custom shroud for the layer fan with this setup?

I believe the mounts are expecting you to use the factory spacers, so if you've got the seemecnc kit, you have everything you need. The effector/arms shouldn't be exposed to any more heat than they are already as most of the hot end is really just a big heat sink. As far as the layer fan, if you've already printed one out, and you're using the stock effector, you'll be able to use the same one.

We are about to release the first batch of the metal hotend mounts for the E3d V6 which also fits the Prometheus perfectly as they both fit into a 13mm mount slot on the all metal hotend mount. The last thing I have to do for it is measure out the best length for the carbon fiber spacers. But I will have a number of lengths to choose from when you place an order as some folks like the head to hang lower than others.

travelphotog's mount is a must-have for any compatible hot-end. It's probably the singles best part(or assembly of parts) on my rostock right now. I've been using an early model of it for over 1,000 hours with a v6 and it's been a champ.

I think it would depend on your Nozzel size - bigger tends to not jam as much. I have used both hotends - well specifically I've combined e3D's Volcano heating blocks and nozzels with their Kraken! I'm loving the speed for bigger prints. I have .4 and 1.2 mm E3D nozzels and a .3mm nozzle for Promethus. I wanted my system to be as flexible as possible.. I've had headaches with long print times, software glitches etc and when I learned about E3D's Volcano hotend it was a life saver. I haven't yet used any of the smaller nozzles from E3D although I do have the smaller nozzles and heater blocks for the V6 that I will be using later.

I've put about 2km (wow!) of filament through E3D V6 and Volcano hot ends and the only jam was my own fault for over-retracting PLA because I didn't RTFM.

The speedup from the larger nozzles is pretty astonishing.
