Ambitious print

Post by GPriv »

I'm convinced I will never get this thing completely printed.
After more than two hours, I checked on the progress and the machine was completley shut off! I mean, like the switch was turned OFF. Anyone have this with the Rostock Max v2??

I flipped the swithc to turn it OFF, then to turn it on and it fired up as though nothing was wrong!

Here's the print:
The first is the print, the second is after I took off the raft/skirt. The machine performed flawlessly up until it was completely shut down!
Anyone think maybe this was because I had it completely enclosed in a box?

Power supply shut off, likely due to heat. I had that problem when printing large ABS prints. Can you mod the heat box to attach at the top of the base, or add some panels to isolate the lower part of the box? Get airflow around the base and try removing one or both wooden side plates to see if it makes a difference. I ended up making new side plates with grilles and a fan on one of them.

Ah... good idea. I remember seeing a post about a year ago that showed off some guy's new box for his V2...the bottom of it was at the height of the "top" of the base "station".

I'll do that. I suspected it was a heat thing, straight away.

Thanx!

Sounds like it was a hear issue; however, I have noticed with my Rostock max v2 that if I start a print from the SD card while it plug into my computer that later on if I disconnect or turn off the computer I've had issues. Usually the printer keeps going but for some reason the temps turn off so the hotend and bed both cool to room temperature (and I usually chew up the filament as it thinks things are going as normal but it can't push 1.75mm filament through a .5mm hole without some heat). I have had it randomly shutoff but that only happened once, I've had the heated parts stop doing their job almost every time I did this until I figured out what caused it.

That happens to me aswell.

But, I if i were writing that software I would also add that feature.

If disconnecting, turn off all the heaters so the guy does not walk away and burn the house down.

They could have added a check though "If not printing from sd card" which would have been a nice feature.
