Printing small objects, hotend keeps "pausing" off target.

Hey guys, rostock v2 here, using mattercontrol software and have recently started trying ABS over my usual PLA.
whenever I try and print rather small models or when I get to a small layer etc, my hotend at some point during the layer, goes off to the right side of the model a few inches, and pauses a moment with flow still coming out of the nozzle and after a moment, goes back to the model and finishes the layer or starts the new one.
Thought this might be a cooling related behaviour but I have never seen the hotend move off target before.
Thoughts lads?

As far as my knowledge tells me, this is a "minimum layer time" setting to ensure that the previous layer gets a chance to cool before the next layer goes down on top of it. If you have it set to something like 10 seconds, and each layer only takes 3 seconds to complete, then the nozzle will move off of the print and wait for 7 seconds to ensure that the layer got a full 10 seconds of time before carrying on with the next.
You should be able to hunt through the Mattercontrol settings and look for a setting along the lines of "minimum layer time" and either turn it off or set it to zero. Keep in mind however, this setting is there for a reason, so if you're printing parts THAT tiny, you may want to slow your print speed down to ensure the layers have more time spent on them anyway.

Found a setting in Matter Control:
Filament>cooling> Slow down if printtime is below "50" seconds.
Other interesting settings:
Minimum print speed "2mm/s
Enable Extruder lift "yes" (moves extruder "up off the part for extra cooling". (can this also result on horizontal movement?"
Models are also centered, but the unusual seemingly cooling movement seemingly parks some ways off to the right away from center .

on small parts I print more than 1 or bundle different parts as part of the same run. this insures that the nozzle will never stop printing something and the parts cool enough to not sag.
