Hot Power Cord.....

After building my Max V2 I noticed that the power cord that was shipped with the unit was getting quite warm during operation. I opened the cord and found a very cheaply made piece with very tiny conductors inside. I am estimating 18G wires but may have been smaller. Given the pull on this machine this is far from adequate. After switching out the cable for a heavy duty power cord, the warming stopped.

Even after changing out the power cable it was still not maintaining temperature and taking forever (35+ min) to get up to 90. I luckily had an Astec LPS255 laying around. https://www.artesyn.com/power/search/?s ... rch=LPS255 Even throttled back to 20V it now takes <8 minutes to get to 100 with lots of oomph to spare. They are a little on the pricey side and has a ton of bells and whistles that aren't necessary but works very well. Picture attached for the circuit porn crowd.

I am currently designing a fan shroud and PEM mount module for this. It actually came out of a larger piece of integrated equipment so it has neither.

Happy Printing.

Many have found that the shipped power supplies are inadequate and get changed by the user.
The newer V3 planned printer is supposed to change to a different power supply, but that is sometime in the future.

I am glad that you got it working!

Is that the new power supply that comes with the newest revision of the v2?

It does not say when the power supply will be used, just that sometime in the future it will be used.
They seem to keep things like this close to the vest.

Eagle, check the new manual. It's included in the fourth edition manual for the V2. I'm even fairly sure it's shipping now.

It is. The 30A (says 29A on the side of the box, but whatevs... :D ) power supply is a monster. Works great, is less filling, and makes women flock to you![*]

[*] Woman Flocking Feature not tested under real-world conditions. May cause significant eye-roll to be emitted from SO if you wave said power supply at her and make "wooo" sounds.

It's more of what the mushrooms eat but I best not go there. Gene would
have me drawn and quartered. :D
