Power Supply Assembly Question for V2

Greetings! I did already try and find this on the forum, but didn't have any luck. I am at the step of the Rostock V2 build where you have to mount the power supply to the frame. There are 4 round standoffs that are provided. The instructions say that the screws will seem to short but they aren't. Um. How have other people assembled this bit? The screws really do seem too short. I am worried about stripping the threads on the power supply or damaging it from pressing too hard to try and make it work. Would it be okay if I sanded just a bit of the spacers? Or maybe just got slightly longer screws?

If you are having that much trouble getting the screws in, I see nothing wrong with sanding a small amount off of the spacer. That would be better than stripping the screws.
The other option is one you should not have to do and I mention it only as an option, go to a hardware store and get the same screws but SLIGHTLY longer. I believe you should not
have to buy additional parts to make the kit work but I would do so with these screws so I don't pull out all of my remaining hair. Good Luck!

On my kit the 2 screws closest to the outside edge went in fine with their washers... but the 2 near the middle of the base would not catch with the washers... without the washers they do catch and hold. I think we are seeing a production variation from the Power Supply manufacturer.



SeeMeCNC might want to check with their suppliers about better consistency in the way the threaded attachment is done on the bottom of the PS or provide slightly longer fitting screws if this is an ongoing problem

Oooh! That is good to know. Maybe I will just try those without the washer. Is there any downside to leaving it out for the ones that don't work? Or would the sanding be a better idea.

without the washer, one side of the power supply is either less supported, or is exerting torque on the remaining screws. I would sand them all to a consistent height where they all catch, so that the power supply is level and un-torqued. Although it is unlikely you'll manage to exert enough torque to break/bend the screws loose without seriously screwing up the rest of the machine, I prefer not to take chances.

I was speaking of the thin metal washer not the thick one of Melamine since the screw is a tight fit in its hole I don't think leaving the thin metal washers off the innermost PS hold down locations will be any problem... if we were talking of the the 1/4" melamine spacer I would agree with you Xeno.

I didn't even know there was a metal washer, since that's a newer revision than I have, and I didn't grovel over the new manual. :D

Thank you to everyone for your replies. I just left off the metal washers and it went together in less than a minute! So far the build is "together". Now on to calibration and trying to figure out why the extruder motor isn't working...
