Is there a wiring diagram of the completed Max V2?

Post by Windshadow »

I guess this is a strange request but I like to get my head around a wiring diagram when I mess with electrics and electronics and before I attempt to do one on my own from the the instructions and photos (good as they are) a diagram would be a help as I consider the routing of the base wiring

Check the rambo wicki page.

Everything is wired to the rambo.
When on mobile I am brief and may be perceived as an arsl.

that color picture of the rambo is showing the stepper motor wiring as the reverse of what I see on page 137 of the version 4.12 December 2 2015 manual

I am using the wiring as laid out by Gene but wherever that original of you color version is kept perhaps it should be revised to match page 137

The stepper wire colors can't be relied upon 100%. Different stepper manufacturers have been known to mix the colors.

+1 - they can't be relied upon PERIOD! I spent 2 weeks debugging a new board that seemingly didn't work, even sent it back to the manufacturer just to discover that the stepper wire colors were completely different on one stepper. I now do the simple "resistance test" to determine the 2 phases and then config the rest in the firmware.

* resistance test - tie 2 of the 4 stepper wires together (this is assuming 4 wire steppers) and spin the shaft. If you feel resistance, disconnect the wires and it should spin freely. This pair of wires is one phase. The other pair is the second phase. Ing the RAMBo drawing, one phase is red/green the other is yellow/blue. It really doesn't make any difference which goes where or the polarity of each phase as this can all be manipulated in firmware. The phases are important though!

My Tormach uses Poly Phase or Three Phase Steppers. Only three wires instead of four and the connection cannot be screwed up. Reverse direction? Flip any two wires.

thanks for the info I did not know that they did not all use the same color code... useful tip on checking them

I have been thinking of adding CNC to my Shaublin 102 instrument makers lathe and if it do it will be a totally custom job and I will need to learn things like this.
